COUNCILLOR BEV DUBOIS / WARD 9
HELLO!
I hope this newsletter finds you well and you are having a wonderful summer with family and friends. There are always so many events and festivals happening in Saskatoon that make the season even more exciting and fun. I have seen many of you as I have been out and about at so many events, and it has been great to catch up and have good conversations.
BudgetYour city council continued to meet throughout July and August. The city does not shut down in the summer! Among many other issues, we have had extra budget meetings. City Council’s Governance & Priorities Committee (GPC) will continue its work to reduce the projected funding gap within the 2024/2025 Multi-Year Business Plan and Budget.
I have been very vocal not just now but for years that I am very worried about spending. In fact, I have voted against the last 4 budgets and the corresponding mill rate increases. I have and will continue to make it very clear that we need to focus on core services…roads, sidewalks, transit, police, fire, parks, water and wastewater and waste reduction. This is also what I am hearing from folks. You want a good quality of life and council needs to listen to that and stick to the basics to get things back on track.
I am very much in favour of cancelling, reducing or pausing capital projects. Again, we need to concentrate on the core services to give the citizens of Ward 9 and the city a good quality of life that all can enjoy and experience.
My council colleagues and I agree on many things, but we do not agree on every issue. I never hesitate to stand up for you in Ward 9. While I might not win every vote, I will ALWAYS stand up against policies that I don’t think make sense and always take into consideration the valuable feedback from ward 9 residents.
Connecting with communityOne of my favourite activities as City Councillor is connecting with you. I am always available. I have regular Coffee with Your Councillor every month (sometimes twice a month). I also have many other community engagements in the ward. If you have an event you would like me attend, please contact me and I would love to join you. I am active with all the community associations in Ward 9. I sure appreciate all the work the volunteers do in our community and I truly value working with them.
The next Coffee with Your Councillor is:
THURSDAY,
SEPTEMBER 28TH
10:00AM - 12:00PM
Pitchfork Market + Kitchen

NEWS RELEASE
The Lakeridge Community Association is excited to announce that we were approved for $33,750 of federal funding for the rejuvenation of our tennis/pickleball court through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF). Financial support was also provided by the City of Saskatoon, the Lakeridge Community Association and individual community members.
The Lakeridge Community Association would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who made this project possible. Healthy outdoor activities are important to the mental and physical well-being of our residents. This new court will provide a recreational space for community members, and those from neighbouring communities, to enjoy for many years to come!
For more than 20 years, the Lakeridge Community Association has leased and operated the tennis court area of Crocus Park, the only public park in the Lakeridge neighbourhood. The park provides residents with a number of amenities to enjoy throughout the year including the tennis court, which was in need of repair. With the growing interest in pickleball, the new multi-use tennis/pickleball court will be a welcome addition to our community.
The Crocus Park court project includes:
- Removing fencing
- Cleaning debris
- Removing existing asphalt
- Installing new asphalt
- Painting court lines
- Installing new net posts and nets
- Reinstalling fencing and any necessary landscape repairs
“Our government is continuing to invest in communities across Saskatchewan to build and renew recreational infrastructure, bringing people together to connect and stay active. Recreational spaces like the Crocus Park tennis and pickleball court will encourage residents to spend time together in their community.”
− The Honourable Daniel Vandal, Minister for PrairiesCan
The Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF) is delivered in Saskatchewan by Prairies Economic Development Canada and helps communities rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Fund assists non-profit organizations, municipalities, community groups and Indigenous communities across Canada to build and improve community infrastructure projects.
For more information on the Crocus Park court project and to find out how to contribute/donate, please visit our website at https://www.lakeridgecommunity.ca/contact-us.html
Phase 1 is complete!
Phase 1 of the tennis court has been completed. The asphalt has been laid and the federal grant that we received will cover those expenses. We ran into a couple of issues but those seem to have been resolved now. Phase 2, slated for late spring/early summer, will see the final coat of finishing done to the surface and then our new pickle ball/tennis court will be ready for use.
Phase 2 is complete!!
Phase 2 of our project is complete! Needs to cure and when it’s ready poles and nets will be placed.
Congratulations to our Community!

**********************************************For over 20 years, the Lakeridge Community Association has leased and operated the tennis court area in Crocus Park. Crocus Park is the only public park in the Lakeridge neighbourhood, and is a hub for the neighbourhood offering a number of amenities for residents to enjoy throughout the year, and the tennis court is a key part of that. Repairs for a tennis court are expensive, and with the growing interest in pickleball, the Association will be looking to improve this court surface, while also incorporating modifications to line markings and net height in order to allow both activities to be available. We are excited about the programming and public use opportunities that will come with this "court remodel" ! Our hope is to have these changes take place in 2021, but will depend on the fundraising possible. ************************************************************ |
